Why We Call Ourselves a Studio, Not an Agency

"Agency" is the word most people reach for when they're thinking about getting marketing help. It's what they search for, what shows up on business cards, and it's the general shorthand the industry uses. Even though we've always operated more like a studio, and for years we’ve called ourselves a “boutique marketing company,” that word has crept into how people describe us from time to time.
We'd like to set the record straight. And if you've ever hired an agency before (or almost did, then backed out), you probably already understand why the distinction matters.
What comes to mind when you hear "agency"?
For many business owners, it's not always great. Maybe it's the account manager who took over your project and never quite understood your brand. Maybe it's the analytics report that didn't mean anything. Or maybe it's the contract that locked you in before you knew if it was even the right fit.
None of that is really about the work. It's about the structure. A lot of agencies are built to scale, which means bigger teams and processes built to work for a large number of clients. That's not a bad model. It's just not ours.
So, what makes a studio different?
We prioritize you. We treat you more like a creative partner instead of another client. Your insights and beliefs help anchor our work. Here's what that looks like:
You work directly with the people doing the work
Every strategy is built for your brand, not templated
We purposefully keep our client list small
We're quick to adjust when something isn't working how we planned
There's no account manager standing between you and your strategist. No handoffs or re-explaining your brand to someone new every few months. It's a small, senior team that's genuinely in it with you.
Why does this matter for you?
Because the structure you hire ends up shaping the experience you get. A studio model means less overhead, more attention, and marketing that actually feels like yours instead of something pulled off a shelf.
We still do the same work as many agencies. Strategy, content, social media, design, digital ads and whatever else you can think of. We just don't believe you should have to wade through "agency" baggage to get to it.
We believe marketing should be memorable, not replaceable. And our Studio approach ensures we are creating personalized strategies with purpose. Not just another standardized template.
